Chapter President

July/August 2010

Washington DC. What an amazing City. Sometimes I forget while living here and not being a “tourist”, all of the amazing sites and locations that it has to offer. (For instance, if you haven’t been to Dumbarton Oaks yet – go check that out.)

Luckily, I do live close enough to be able to experience these things first-hand when people come to visit. I was able to see Dumbarton with my Mother two weeks ago, and 6 of your Board members welcomed other Penn State leaders to DC during one of the 3 regional Alumni Leadership Connections conferences sponsored by the PSAA at the Spy Museum. (Also – if you haven’t participated in Operation Spy – check that out!)

On June 12, we were able to meet with Chapter leaders from all over the Northeast to help share ideas and find ways to be more beneficial to you, our membership, as well as make some great plans for the Indiana Game. Outside of getting to talk with Chapter Leaders, we were able to discuss events and organization with some National Groups who happen to have leadership in DC. If you have any interest in these groups, your contact could be your next-door neighbor!

LGBTA Alumni Interest Group - K David Weidner (dweidner@capcitytek.com)
African American Alumni Organization (AAAO) – Tracey Baker (redmba03@gmail.com)
Crew AIG - Amy Ruttenberg (alruttenberg@gmail.com)
Penn State Professional Women’s Network – Julie Barsic (julieb@psualum.com)
Essence of Joy Alumni Singers - Joshua Edwards (president@eojas.org)

Contact them directly if you want to get involved in their respective organizations, or pay attention to the Events page over the next few months; we are aiming to increase the number of events which we team up with other Nittany Groups in the District.

Also featured in DC this Fall, in case you’ve been away from the internet for the last 4 months, Penn State Football is coming to DC in November. What is surely to be the greatest crowd to ever enter FedEx Field, we are working on many events to help you fully embrace the weekend. From ticket sales to tailgates to Tee Shirts (white ones, obviously), we have your “Potomac Happy Valley” ready for you to enjoy the game the way that it was meant to be enjoyed. There are more details within this newsletter, and as we get closer to the game, we will unveil more surprises. You WON’T want to miss this White House!

As summer beckons us outside, and with Football Fall right around the corner, it’s a great time to be a Chapter Member. We welcome all attendees to all of our events, but there are certainly amazing opportunities that only members can truly enjoy the benefits of. Go to the website and make sure that your membership is active. You don’t want to miss out on what’s coming!

For The Glory,
Mike Carroll, ‘04
