You may not know it, but thousands of athletes gather at Penn State every summer for the Pennsylvania Special Olympics. Special Olympics and Best Buddies are a Penn State tradition and DC alumni are proud supporters of this inaugural event!
On October 23, 2010, celebrities, athletes, individuals with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities will participate in the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge. This will be the first year for the event in our nation's capital and Penn State alumni are determined to come together for this great cause.
Choose to bike in the 20-mile circuit downtown, run a 5K race or enjoy the 3K walk! Please feel free to send your tax-deductable dollars to our team and help us reach our goals.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver had one vision - to show the world that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities could achieve and thrive in society. Her vision and legacy live on through two organizations - Best Buddies and Special Olympics. These groups are changing the world, using sports, friendship and jobs as a basis for acceptance and understanding.
The inaugural Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge pays tribute to the vision, commitment and achievements of Mrs. Shriver and the tradition of making a difference that began in her backyard. The day will honor her inspiration, impact and indomitable spirit and challenge generations to "play on" by becoming agents of acceptance and action in their communities.
