Committees

 

MWCPSAA is comprised of the following committees. Read on to learn more about each committee's specific role within the Chapter or click a link below to jump to a specific committee.

 
Community Service
Amanda Caputo & Jill Wiscount
- Coordinate volunteer opportunities for Penn Staters in the DC/MD/VA area
- Lead a Penn State team in an existing run, walk, food drive or clean-up event
- Brainstorm new ideas about how the Chapter can become involved with charities, non-profit organizations or community service initiatives in the area

Communications
Jennifer Garbis & Delia Carr, info@psuwashdc.org
- Responsible for bi-monthly newsletter, monthly emails and ListServ, and most of the Chapter website
- Editing and designing the newsletter entails approximately seven hours of work every other month
- Layout and production of the newsletter takes about two hours every other month
- Website updating and maintenance usually requires about three hours per month
- Maintain the Chapter’s social media presence (in conjunction with other Committees)

Scholarship

Brandon Shoup, fundraising@psuwashdc.org 
- Coordinate fundraising efforts for MWCPSAA scholarship and other causes.
- Lead and train viewing site captains on fundraising goals.

- Administer Chapter Scholarship ($15,000 - $25,000 annually) by interviewing incoming first-year students

Membership
Mary Ward
- Coordinate weekly direct-mailings (stick ‘n’ stamp) to members
- Create magnets, membership cards, and letters for member mailing
- Seek out member benefits from area businesses, discuss options with managers, maintain Chapter-vendor relationships annually and keep the Chapter website updated with benefit information
- Attend events as an ambassador for the Chapter; distribute membership materials and collect completed membership forms and dues 

THON

- Corrdinate Chapter THON events in DC, Virginia and Maryland
- Chapter Liason with THON


Professional Development
Jordan Dunbar, profdev@psuwashdc.org

- Provide Chapter members with access to free workshops on debt elimination, investing and home buying, as well as information on getting an advanced degree or certification
- Liaise with Penn State Alumni Career Services to offer services to Chapter members
- Bring together Alumni and employers at networking events
- Primarily work together via email and conference call


Social Events/Sports
Emily Matayas
Brady Mccall & Rob England (SPORTS)

- Plan Chapter social events including happy hours, fundraisers, museum tours and professional sporting events
- Maintain the Chapter’s social media presence (in conjunction with other Committees)
- Oversee the administration of the Chapter sports teams: football, basketball, volleyball, softball and soccer
- Coordinate activities with other Penn State Chapters and the Capital Alumni Network (CAN)
- Time commitment can range from one to two hours per month, plus bi-monthly meetings

- Coordinate events with members and alums new to the DC area 
- Communicate with new members and alums 

Student Affairs
Diana Reese, studentaffairs@psuwashdc.org
- Host incoming students at the Freshman Send-Off picnic in August
- Coordinate charter bus trips for current students to/from University Park for scheduled breaks throughout the academic year
- Support the Alumni Admissions Volunteer Program by attending local college fairs and information sessions run by the Admissions Office (contact DCMDVA-admissions@psu.edu)
